Apr 17 2008, 2:24 AM EDT HP. Is that Hewlett Pack(red)???? Small business success right there! They started much like Apple, building electronic calculators and such in a home shop, didn't they? Now they make more money selling printers than they ever dreamed of making with the ti55 hand-held calculator ( http://www.hpmuseum.org/ ). It's midnight, and I woke up inspi(red) and not ti(red)!! I sort of "surfed" into these pages at the intersection of wetpaint and Hewlett Packard over the past 2 days. I have been fighting AIDS since 1995, and I am sad to say I was getting a bit ti(red). I need to make my second trip to Cape Town, South Africa, to train another group of AIDS researchers there about HIV vaccine design. I only need about $3,000 to get me there and back. I have South African friends who are fighting AIDS on many levels (HIV researchers, Treatement Action Campaign members, etc) who I can stay with to save hotel cost. I have been searching for funding for this trip without much success so far. It's a rather trivial amount of money to raise. Most biomedical granting agencies like the NIH take applications for budgets closer to $500,000, for bigger projects. Most other HIV/AIDS specific agencies want their money to go directly to AIDS orphans and such, rather than toward training doctors and nurses. But I have some ideas, thanks to this crossroads of HP and wetpaint!!! I can't wait to see if I can make it work! Do you find this valuable? |
