You may have heard the news about HP’s big announcements at the end of last month. If not, you can find much of the information and presentations here.

For those of you who know about Web 2.0, we are taking that a step further at HP and evolving to Print 2.0. Print 2.0 is about making it easier for you to print from the web and design for the web. It means that people who design web sites can control how the output will look when it is printed. It means that if you put a lot of time and effort into your brand image and your web site, you can be confident in knowing how people are printing out your materials on the other side of that PC. In an age where the web is now at the heart of how business is conducted and managed, we are moving towards supporting the printing that is happening in and around the web. How many times have you printed a web page and found that it doesn’t look the way you thought it would? We are going to address those issues as part of our Print 2.0 strategy. Our focus at HP is moving from just printers to printing. Printing is a more encompassing way to look at business documents beyond speeds and feeds; it can involving creating documents, moving them around, reading them, presenting them and printing them. You’ll hear us use language like “What do you have to say?” as part of our marketing campaign…from your perspective, we want to help you, as a business owner, be in a position to get your message across to your customers. We want to help you say it!

Web 2.0 trends have put us in a position to execute on Print 2.0. This is an exciting time for us at HP…we have a new way to connect with customers through our Small and Medium Business Printing Community, we have continued to build out the portfolio of solutions to make it easier to print via the web and we have a suite of new products that will help deliver output wherever you need it.

I particularly like the content that Jake Burton and Paula Scher have provided in conjunction with HP. Jake Burton talks about what it means to put your customers first. Paula has some great thinking around why branding is important and why consistency across your materials is key to your business success. Both have utilized in-house marketing as a key concept for driving their brand identity and, ultimately, using their brand promise to drive results.

I will talk more about in-house marketing in future blog entries, but in the meantime, make sure you check out the SMB Printing Community site to take a look around. And always, let us know what you think. We need to know … does this make sense? Is this SMB Community something you can see yourself interacting with? What opportunities does the web provide for you in your business? What other printing problems could we help you solve?

This is a great entry and it really helps our community members start to think about the evolution of their business around printing. Today, it seems unconcious for them. But when you really break down what your small business brand is, you realize it is about starting small but looking "big!" As Anneliese said, this is our first step and we are determined to make printing an experience, not just about our printers or our supplies. Your ideas can definitely help. Tell us about experiences that truthfully make a difference in your personal or busines life. Tell us, too, what "Print 2.0" in the blog, podcast, social network, online is my business world really means to you!
