I’ve talked about common themes that small and medium businesses seem to face. Even HP started as a small business…Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard started tinkering in a garage and faced challenges about how to take their products to market, how to engage customers in the right conversations, how to grow sales and how to plan for the future. How do you think about taking your business from the garage to a bigger, mainstream operation? Is it your goal to grow larger, or are you happy with what you have created?

I think you can look big without being big by making the right choices for how your business is marketed and how you create demand for your product or services. When I think about the opportunity to position yourself and your brand, I want to ask you a few questions that can get you to a better place:

  1. What mediums and activities are you using to build awareness and drive demand for your business?
  2. Do you have a website? Is your website search engine optimized for local search (did you know that 90% of search is done to look for local answers by people who are ready to buy?)
  3. Do you do presentations to clients and potential customers?
  4. Do you send out marketing materials? What do they look like? Have you ever thought about enhancing your brand identity or updating your brand look or feel? If you need some guidance, you might want to explore our business marketing identity kits. Or if you are new business getting off the ground, have you used Logoworks, a company HP has recently acquired that we believe extends our offerings to you as a Small or Medium sized company?

What else can HP do to really help you market, finance, and/or sell your business to clients, investors and prospects, within your community? In a future entry, I will talk about how making the right printer to printing choices can help you be “Big” in the marketplace through your own in-house marketing strategies and tactics.
Help me help others that I talk to about future products and services in HP to understand your SMB needs- comment in my blog below!
