SMBs Unlocking the Power of Print with HP's Print 2.0
Anneliese Olson
June 19, 2007
In my experience, people ultimately use printers not because of the devices themselves, but because of the pages that come out of the printers. You create content, you print content, you distribute content, and you consume content all as part of your daily business operations.
There are many reasons people need to put content on paper. For business owners and managers, it represents an opportunity to deliver your message and win business. There is something that businesses do with those pages -- everyone uses them a bit differently, and sometimes the actual output is the final product for sale (like a piece of artwork or a piece of marketing material). But no matter what, those pages represent who you are.
Part of our job is to help you create the output that represents who you are. Another part is to make it easier for you to print content – whether it’s yours or content belonging to someone else. And yet another part is to help you lower the cost of printing. Here’s the latest on what we’re doing for you:
On June 1st, we launched this new color printing solution, and we bundled some new in-house marketing tools in the box so you can test out how simple it is to create marketing materials yourself (and ultimately, save money for your bottom line and gain flexibility to customize your message). The CP3505’s Print Cost Estimator is really cool! It can quickly guess how much it would cost to print content on your printer vs. sending it to the print shop.
The HP Print View Software lets you see what your content looks like before you hit print. (Think of it as the “print preview” button on steroids.) You can find more information about other in-house marketing tools, templates, and solutions at HP’s Color Printing Center.
-- Print 2.0: Unlocking the Power of Print
Vyomesh Joshi, the executive vice president for HP’s Imaging and Printing Group, recently unveiled our vision for the future of printing (you can view his presentation on HP’s Print 2.0 strategy directly from our website). This strategy includes 3 key areas of focus:
1) Making it easier to print from the web. The blog printing plug-in for the Movable Type blogging platform and the Tabblo Print Toolkit for web developers will both be available near the end of June.
2) Extending the digital content creation and publishing platforms to customers (such as the Logoworks services offered to HP's small and medium business customers)
3) Enabling a digital printing platform that provides increased speeds and lower costs for high-volume commercial printing markets.
Ultimately, we are trying to make it easier for you to print, no matter where or how you are reading, creating, or using content. Printing from websites will be one thing that will be improved for you immediately, both as users of the web and as business owners representing your businesses on the web.
I’m eager to learn how you use printing to represent your business and how your company creates and uses in-house marketing today. Drop me a line using the comment form below.
